How To Use A VPN With Xbox 360

Ok guys, I wanted to let you know that over the last 2 months or so I’ve literally received hundreds of requests to devise a way to get an Xbox 360 to run through a vpn service. I’m pleased to announce that my efforts have been successful and I have tested the IAPS networks in Ireland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States and all jurisdictions were easily able to play online at Xbox Live.

With the major part out of the way, I’m now working on how to stream media services from the Xbox 360 to your TV directly. I know a few British services have just launched Xbox 360 compatible streaming services and I hope to have a solid guide for this as well in the next few coming days.

Here is the step by step guide straight from the IAPS site detailing how you can setup your Xbox 360 to use a vpn:

How To Use A VPN With Xbox 360.

I have screen shots available that prove my method works, and that it works well. It is my hopes that I have fulfilled another well sought-after entertainment facility for you folks. If you have any questions or comments, or would like to see the screen shots, please let me know. Thank you.

VPN Service & Xbox 360

Folks I’ve just posted preliminary instructions on how to use a VPN service with the Xbox 360 gaming console. It is my hopes that these instructions help guide you on your way to both internet gaming and catching some telly by using your gaming console to transfer the picture directly to your tv instead of your computer screen. This is not an all-exclusive instruction manual and I may have room in there for marginal error. But its written to the best of my knowledge and tested here in the IAPS Control Center. If you have any questions or comments about this guide, please let me know. Thank you.

I’ve got 3 things: An Xbox 360, a VPN, & a Wireless Router. Now What?

What we have:

A Wireless Router
A Notebook/laptop with wireless and LAN port
A Crossover Cable
VPN (Doesn’t matter what country, but most popular are United Kingdom, United States, Canada, & Switzerland)

Once your VPN is set up and working you can proceed with the next steps…

Step 1: Plug your xbox 360 to your laptop using your cross over cable

Step 2: Make sure on your xbox 360 Dashboard your IP settings and DNS Settings are set to Automatic

Step 3: On your windows Laptop i am using Vista click on start and right click “Network” and select Properties, this will get you to your network and sharing center

Step 4: click on “Manage network connections (on the left side of the window)

Step 5: right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties

Step 6: Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)

Step 7: Make sure you click “Use the following IP address”

step8: Give it the following IP address 192.168.0.1

Step 9: Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Note: Default gateway: make sure its blank

Note: Alternate DNS Server make sure its blank

Step 10: Right click on Your VPN (Virtual Private Network) and go to its properties

Step 11: Click on the sharing tab and select “Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection

Step 12: Right under allow other network users should be Home network connection a drop down menu select Local Area Connection and NOT YOUR WIRELESS CONNECTION

(Note: Make sure Establish a dial up connection is not marked and Allow other network users to control is unmarked.)

Hit OK.

Step 13: Make sure your laptop is connected to the internet via wireless internet connection and then connect your VPN

Step 14: Once that is done do a network test on your xbox live (Test Xbox Live connection) it should go all the way through

Step 15: Download your maps and games that are now finally available to you, or go back to where ever you were recently banned from.

Streaming Support For XBOX 360

Folks, we’re currently looking into streaming media support for the Xbox 360. We just installed one in the control center here and are looking into how to maximize the streaming ability. I’m impressed with its features so far: can play any normal dvd, (whether burned or store bought), can connect to your Windows Media Center enabled computer, can play any files on your computer over a wireless network, and so many more features to name.

I’m looking for a way to get applications such as Zattoo to stream wirelessly from the computer (laptop in this case) to the Xbox 360 and onto the tv screen. Once I can accomplish this, I’ll be more than happy to post the results and instructions here. If any of you are more familiar with the Xbox 360 than myself or the IAPS crew, please feel free to add your comments below.
