IP Block Range Splitting

Hi Folks,

Happy Monday to you all. Just a quick note to let you know that we’re doing some RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) ip block transfers between a few of the servers to break down the amount of users per user and to spread out more resources amongst newer servers we are bringing online this week. Today’s work correlates to the new i7 (8-core processor) servers that I mentioned last week.

The changes being made today will lighten the loads per server and will give each server an extra kick from this point on. About 99% of you will not be affected in any way regarding your current service, and those that are affected only need to write a quick email in to us and tell us that happened with your service, which server you were assigned to, what country you were assigned to, and we’ll get you back up and running generally within minutes.

The goal of all of this is to build bigger and better networks than any one else out there and this sometimes involves shuffling network resources around until we find the best possible solution, and then expanding on upon that. IAPS technicians have been working around the clock last week and the week before to come up with the best possible scenarios and solutions and we sincerely believe the solutions being implemented are the best and will work out a lot better for our clients than the current system currently in place. Again, you as our clients get to reap the benefits of this, so we ask for your patience during this short process as most of you will be unaffected during these changes. Thank you for your time and enjoy the beginning of the week.

P.S. We are already aware of the Skyhawk server. I’ll have a solution in place for that shortly as well. (You gotta just love these media companies making things as hard as possible. :) )

Notice for Sunfire Server

Hi Folks,

For those of you assigned to the Sunfire server, my sincere apologies over the down time. A situation presented itself that we had to immediately deal with. When the server comes back on shortly, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with its increase in speed and reliability. We’re in the process of cleaning “the trunk” of the server out and eliminating all un-needed parts, protocols, and services, to ensure the fastest and most lightweight server yet. This will be worth the wait folks. IAPS Technicians are working as fast and as steady as they can to ensure things turn out exactly as planned. Thank you for your patience.

IAPS To Add IPv6 To Its VPN Servers

Hi Folks,

As some of us in the tech world have known for several years, the ip addressing authorities around the world for each region have a shortage of ip addresses. This shortage, commonly known as IPv4, are the normal ip addresses you see whenever you trace your own ip address online. The authorities then developed the IPv6 protocol a little while back to eventually replace IPv4 altogether and to provide billions, even the possibility of trillions of ip addresses so they didn’t make the limited mistake they made with the IPv4 system and have a severe shortage several years down the line. At some point, all IPv4 ip addresses will be retired and replaced with these newer IPv6 systems.

The point I’m trying to make here is that the IPv6 system is already available to providers. It currently adds a nice flow of traffic in addition to the traditional IPv4 system and servers and personal computers that are IPv6 ready are able to talk to each other in a language all of their own.

What does an IPv6 ip address look like?
2001:470:1f08:cca

It looks nothing like the ip addresses you see in common use today. This addition to IAPS vpn servers does not affect your account or service in any way and requires nothing from you. In most cases you won’t even know its there unless your surfing a site, tv service, or other net adventure that can talk in the IPv6 language. IAPS Technicians may need to reboot each server to apply the changes, so don’t be disturbed if they disconnect you for a few minutes. These changes are being added for your conveniences and benefits as our clients. Thank you for your time today and for those living in America, have a happy Memorial Day Weekend.

- Jared

P.S. Read the history of IPv6.

IAPS U.S. Server Notice & Australian Trial Service

Hi Folks,

We are changing our U.S. servers from their current location in the central part of the country and moving them to the East Coast. This is to accomodate the many requests that have come from European clients for faster connectivity to that side of the country. It is my hopes that this move will provide what you folks are looking for. The transition will start next week (week of June 1 – 5, 2010) and I will post further instructions as to this move as we get closer to that date.

If you haven’t had a chance to look at our new Australian service, I’m offering a one-time 24 hour trial period for existing clients of IAPS to check that out. You must have at least 1 active account with us in any current country we already offer for this to apply. Why do you have to be a current client with an active account with us? Because I simply do not want to deal with the daily fraud attempts that hackers and cons use to try and get our servers. If you are a P2P (peer to peer) downloader, please do not request access to this country. Australian bandwidth is simply too costly to deal with users that want to hide their tracks this way. Any one caught using P2P services through this country will be immediately banned and that subscription terminated the first time around.

There are sales going on right now in our specials area so be sure to stop by there and see whats on tap at the moment. Enjoy your Monday and reply back if we can be of any additional assistance. Thank you.

IAPS Service Updates

Hi Folks,

I’m pleased to say we’ve finally gotten the Australian VPN Dialers ready to go and uploaded into place. Any one that is currently using our new Australian services that would like the dialer, please let us know and we’ll get that information right out to you.

We’ve also finished up with adding the cPanel Hosting options within our store area and it is our hopes that you find what we have to offer for this section well worth it. There are a ton of different configuration options for hosting accounts and we’ve laid out the most basic options we thought would cover the most common interests and have included more countries for hosting than any other provider we could find in the industry. A lot of the hosting industries you find online mainly focus on hosting websites in the United Kingdom or the United States. We feel that more options are needed than that, so offered 14 different countries. We believe this should satisfy almost everyone’s hosting requirements.

We are also working on a new project which are VPS Servers. VPS servers are Virtual Private Servers. This is one quarter or one third of a dedicated server thats your to do as you need. Its basically a remote desktop server that can be used for a wide variety of things. If your company needs more processing power or a higher bandwidth capacity than it currently has, then this option is most suitable to you. You have the ability to remotely use your server just as you do your local personal computer. There will be a wide variety of options, operating systems, and a whole lot more as we start working on this new section for our store area. We plan to offer VPS Servers in 15 countries to start and more countries will be added as needed or as the demand grows. VPS Servers can always be custom built, so if you have something more specific in mind, be sure to let us know.

Baptist Hospital (Jacksonville, FL) Wifi Blocks IAPS Website & Installs Hidden Script

Hi Folks,

Its a sad day in hell when a public hospital blocks access to the IAPS website. Let me explain……

One of the IAPS Forum Moderators (3 year moderator) was recently hospitalized and had an extended stay at his local hospital. During his stay at the hospital, he had brought his laptop along to quell the usual boredom of hospital recovery life. On the first night my moderator was able to go to our main website as well as check our forum to make sure everything was ok. The next morning and afternoon all was still well. That evening, our main website was blocked as well as all of his L2TP VPN access while on the hospital wifi network.

Being the inquisitive and thorough moderator that he is, he decided to investigate the matter more in depth. He forwarded a copy of the Baptist Hospital (Jacksonville, FL) wifi terms and conditions that you are forced to agree with before you can use their network. Here is what those terms read:

Welcome to Baptist Health WiFi

THIS SERVICE IS OFFERED TO YOU FREE OF CHARGE IN CONSIDERATION OF YOUR AGREEMENT TO THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY, AND SUCH LIMITATIONS ARE MATERIAL TO BAPTIST’S DECISION TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE TO BAPTIST INVITEES AND AN EXPRESS CONDITION OF YOUR ACCESS TO AND USE OF THIS SERVICE. You have the right to not access or use this Service and the option to obtain substantially similar access to the Internet via any commercial Internet provider. Accordingly, this Agreement shall not be construed in any way as an adhesion contract between the parties, but shall constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Baptist.

Termination of Agreement or Service. The disclaimers of warranty, limitations of liability, monitoring and disclosure and indemnification provisions of this Agreement, and such other provisions that by their terms are reasonably intended to survive termination of this Agreement, shall survive termination of this Agreement. This Agreement is solely between you and Baptist and does not create any third-party beneficiary relationship with any other individual or entity. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Baptist regarding its subject matter, and it supersedes any prior or contemporaneous agreements between you and Baptist regarding its subject matter. Any notices given by you to Baptist must be given by postal mail to Baptist Health, 800 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, Florida 32207, Attention: Information Services Department. The subject headings hereof are for convenience only and do not in any way limit the provisions of this Agreement. If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such provision shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of this Agreement, which shall remain in full force and effect. No waiver of any term or condition of this Agreement shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or condition or any other term or condition of this Agreement.

In a nutshell, what this says is that they are watching and monitoring at all times what your doing and where you are going. My moderator was blocked for what reason? What harm does the IAPS site do? How did it violate any terms of a hospital’s wifi terms? We’re not a hostile site, we don’t promote any illegalities, we don’t allow riffraff on our networks, and we strive 7 days a week to promote net neutrality and a censorship-free world.

Upon leaving the hospital and returning home, my moderator connected to his home network and tried to sign in to his vpn service only to be once again blocked. After many hours of deleting and reinstalling the vpn services, cleaning out his computer, and everything else he could think of, he finally discovered what the problem was. The hospital wifi network had installed (without his consent or permission) a small script that disabled parts of his computer that controlled both his dial-up networking (which controls part of the vpn service) and which sites he’s allowed to visit while on their network. The biggest problem with this policy besides the total censorship-state that hospital is running, is installing an actual script without the consent of the user that was persistent even when a user left the hospital network and returned home.

Is this the censorship world that we are becoming? When even a religious based hospital resorts to total censorship? My moderator deleted the script without thinking when he eventually found it. When himself and I were discussing the incident, he told me he’s due back at the hospital this coming week and he’ll get me a copy of that script that they put on your computer. I’ll tear the coding apart when he sends it over to me and I’ll post the raw code on the blog here so every can see exactly what a totalitarian pro-censorship society looks like. Its truly disgusting to see a supposed “free society” under a dictatorship like this. People generally go to a hospital to be fixed up, not to have their civil liberties cut to shreds.

Australian Online TV

We’ve been watching a good amount of Australian TV over the past few days via our new series of Australian servers and it seems quite interesting stuff they have over there. ABC TV Australia seems to have mastered their online player and it streams exceptionally well. They have plenty to watch for the savvy internet tv watcher and you all know what an HDMI cable can do to get that online tv off your computer and onto your big screen.

I was watching their “Robin Hood” series and was instantly addicted to it. (This is exactly what happened to me the first time I watched Dr. Who courtesy of the BBC.) I think they have only posted the first 3 episodes so far, but I’ll be there when episode 4 comes out. :)

New Player Upgrade For Hulu

Hi Folks,

For those of you watching U.S. tv, you’ll notice a change today in the Hulu online player. This new upgraded player seems to be a very good upgrade indeed and so far we’ve only seen good things with it. Less buffering than the old player for those that are physically located quite far away. Vastly improved graphics while in full screen mode and an over-all eye candy to look at. Very nice indeed by the folks running Hulu. :)
